I am a born and bred New Yorker, mom of two little girls who loves
all things New York and is passionate about healthy living.

Little Sous Chef

Hermione loves being in the kitchen with me while I cook. She has a blast sitting on the counter and "helping." Usually this just involves her snacking on (vegan) cookie dough, playing with the various ingredients, and making a mess but it is still a great way to slowly introduce her to cooking. One of the greatest gifts I have been able to give her is healthy start in life with a diet of only fresh, whole, clean foods. As she grows up I hope she continues to make healthy eating choices based on what I have taught her and exposed her to. Right now she is the only toddler I know who drinks green juice every day and asks for "more kale" and I hope to keep it that way! One of our favorite foods to make together is guacamole. It's super easy to prepare and requires lots of smashing which Hermione is an expert at. We love to eat our guacamole with cut up raw veggies instead of chips, much lighter and healthier that way! Hermione adores spicy food but if you have a child with a more sensitive palate feel free to omit the garlic and jalepeno!

Hermione's Favorite Guacamole

  • 2 avocados
  • 2 T chopped red onion
  • 1 T diced jalepeno
  • 1 clove garlic diced
  • 2 T fresh lime juice
  • 1 T cilantro chopped
  • 1/2 medium tomato diced, or 1/2 cup of halved cherry tomatoes
  • pinch of sea salt
  1.  In a medium bowl combine all the ingredients except the tomatoes
  2. Using a fork mash everything together until fully combined yet slightly chunky
  3. Gently fold in halved tomatoes
