Workweek Style Tips From Cari Smulyan of Bubby's Vintage
Last winter my dear friend, amazing stylist, and incredibly talented jewelry designer
moved from New York to Chicago. I was beyond heartbroken to see her go. Cari is a very special person and my day is always a little better when she is around. She is the friend I text a picture of my outfit whenever I leave the house. I rarely make a clothing purchase without consulting her. Twice a year we clean out and reorganize my closet together and then take pictures of fun new outfits for the upcoming season. She is a true talent and a wonderful person all around.
The one upside of Cari moving away is that whenever she is in New York we get lots of concentrated time together. Last week while she was visiting we went shopping, sorted through my closet, styled and shot a holiday party video, and threw a trunk show for her jewerly line Bubby's Vintage.
While Cari's gorgeous baubles made from vintage finds are reason enough to we decide our trunk show should have a fun theme. We focused the evening around styling and health tips for your workweek. I made snacks that would easily transport to the office and Cari showed how to stay chic all week long as well as how to go from day to night by adding a few sparkly Bubby's Vintage pieces!
On the way out the door our guests were given printout with Cari's top tips for dressing for the workweek. Even though I don't work in a traditional office I have found these tips so helpful that I wanted to share them here!
Cari's Tips To Make Dressing For Your Work Week Easier!
Carve out time in the weekend to lay out your clothes for the week. It will eliminate the stress of figuring out what to wear when you are rushing around in the morning. You will feel more put together and ready to face each day.
Pick a theme for the week and plan your outfits around that theme. For example, I love being really preppy sometimes. So for one week all my outfits are on the preppy side:
Monday: Cigarette pants, striped boat neck shirt, ballet flats
Tuesday: Pencil skirt, thin crew neck sweater with cardigan, kitten heals
Wednesday: Wide leg trousers with blouse and cardigan, pearls
Thursday: Sheath dress, gold chains, scarf, heels
Friday: Jeans, white blouse button down, my favorite navy blazer, a skinny belt, layered pearl and gold necklaces, knee high boots.
Pick 5 things our of your closet that you love and make you feel good and then plan an outfit for each day using one of your favorite pieces.
5Favorite Things:
- Bright green corduroys
- Zara floral blouse
- Rust Maxi tank dress
- Sweater with jeweled necklace neckline
- Vintage brooch necklace
Monday: Green corduroys, black knee-high boots, black crew neck sweater
Tuesday: Dark skinny jeans, Zara floral blouse, brown sweater jacket
Wednesday: Rust maxi tank dress, long Aztec sweater jacket, ankle boots
Thursday: Black tailored pants, sweater with jeweled necklace neckline
Friday: Jeans, white long sleeved shirt, vintage brooch necklace, black blazer
Always have 3 go to outfits in your closet that make you feel beautiful and confident. That way you can throw one on when you are running late, too tired to figure out what to wear or don’t feel good.
Pick a color you are currently obsessed with and then find 5 things in your closet that have that color. Plan your outfits around one of those pieces each day. This helps narrow your focus and makes your closet and the options seem less overwhelming.
Have an important meeting or lunch appointment that you are nervous about? Pack you favorite pair of heels to change into before you head into your meeting. They should be ones that make you feel beautiful, sexy and powerful. While they aren’t ideal to wear all day they are perfect to help you feel confident and strong during those time you need an extra boost.
