A Week of Ideas For You and Your Kids (Round 2)
This week we are celebrating Hermione's 7th birthday, our second quarantine birthday. It's kind of nice to have an event like that to look forward to even if it isn't the way I would choose to celebrate. Here is another's weeks worth of easy ideas to keep your kids entertained. I hope they are helpful!
Monday: Coloring Pages
Maybe it's just my kids but when we got a printer to help with home schooling work sheets it was a total novelty. I have been printing fun coloring sheets for them and not only have they loved coloring they think watching the printer work is pure magic. We are really loving these Powerful Women coloring sheets right now.
Tuesday: Banana Bread
Is it even quarantine if you don't make Banana Bread? This vegan recipe is easy, delicious and the kids can help every step of the way!
3 large bananas mashed
1/2 cup almond flour
1 cup gluten free flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1tsp vanilla extract
big pinch of salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 bar dark chocolate or 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Pre heat oven to 350
Line a baking pan or loaf pan with parchment paper.
Combine all ingredients save the chocolate bar in a bowl throughly.
Cut the chocolate bar into small chunks and fold into the bowl with the other ingredients ( or simply add chocolate chips to the bowl).
Bake for 45 minutes until a fork inserted comes out clean.
Allow to cool completely before cutting!
Wednesday: Make a Rainbow
I love the sentiment of hanging a rainbow in the window to support and thank health care workers. This dot sticker rainbow is really easy for a child Portia's age. You make the rainbow lines with marker or colored pencil and have them fill in with dot stickers. For older kids I love this rainbow coloring pag
Thursday: Plant an Herb Garden
Even if you live in an apartment like me you can still plant a tiny heart garden. Portia loved doing this activity together and can't wait to make herbal tea when her herbs grow. This is a great starter kit that can be used indoors or out!
Friday: Dye Their Hair
Want to be the ultimate quarantine Cool Mom? Let them dye their hair a color of their choice. With no school, no dress code, and no activities right now is the ultimate time to let them indulge their Descendants hair dreams. I used this semi-permanent dye ( which I used to use in the 90s) for Hermione's purple hair. Not ready to make the commitment. Try hair chalk or this spray which washed out in one shampoo!
Saturday: Slumber Party
My girls are always begging to share a bed and I always say no because I don't want them waking each other up all night/early and being a cranky mess for the next day. The other night I let them snuggle up in Hermione's bed and it was a hit. Hermione read Portia a story and they fell asleep wrapped around each other. Oh, and then around 10pm Hermione called out to me saying, "Mommy, Portia has to leave!" Ah well...
For reading in bed our whole family has headlamps which we love!
Sunday: Pass the Parcel
With two birthdays to celebrate in quarantine we have gotten creative! Making a giant surprise ball with little trinkets we found all over the house and tissue paper was a huge hit. When it's time to play Pass the Parcel sit in a circle, play some music and pass the surprise ball from person to person. When the music stops whoever has the ball unwraps a layer and gets to keep the trinket inside! This is just as fun on a random weekend as it is for birthdays!
Bonus: This article perfectly sums up how I feel about my beloved NYC right now.
I hope these ideas helped! Remember no matter how much or how little you feel like you are doing you are doing a great job. Even when it doesn't feel like it.
